According to the research of the Ministry of Agriculture, in total 200 hectares of a modern greenhouse should be organized for tomatoes’ meeting the local market demands. A current greenhouse in Khelvachauri district was named as an example of this by the Ministry. The greenhouse, the private property of ICON GROUP Company and located on 3, 5 hectares, is the investment of 6 million USD.ICON GROUP Company is totally based on foreign capital. The company employs 100 people, the salary is normal and besides, there is social assistance. The staff uses different services and a single free meal per day. At this stage, ICON GROUP product demand exceeds supply and therefore, the company plans to expand activities. This is the only company at the local market producing the first quality tomatoes and having a photo sanitary certificate. Wholesale price of 1 kg tomatoes compiles 3-3, 5 GEL. Except tomatoes, ICON GROUP produces lettuce leaves. At this stage, price of 1 kg lettuce leaves is 2,5-3 GEL but compared with tomatoes, it has less selling and in case of the large demand for vegetables, ICON GROUP will make appropriate steps in this direction. |

On January, 27, 2011, Mr.Zviad Kvlividze, the representative of USAID Economic Property Initiative Project (EPI) and Mr.Carlton Jones, Private Sector Development Expert visited the International Investors Association of Georgia. Purpose of their visit was to get acquainted with association member companies and their development potential. Main goal of the USAID project is to promote business competitiveness in Georgia, to create new jobs and to attract foreign and local investments. Accompanied by Mr. Iason Tsertsvadze, Secretary General of IIA, the guests visited several companies, members of the International Investors Association („Ajara Textile”,”BTM Textile”,”Batumi Tex”, “Georgian Kar-sa”).Meetings addressed problematic issues of the above mentioned companies. At the end of the visit, the guests expressed their willingness to broaden cooperation with the Association for further development of its member companies. |
